3-D Actuation of Liquid Metal with Continuous Electrowetting

Abstract

This paper assesses the capabilities to electrically actuate liquid metal against the force of gravity. This provides insight in realizing 3-D electronics utilizing electrically actuated liquid metal. A device is fabricated to demonstrate that liquid metal can be moved vertically against the force of gravity using continuous electrowetting (CEW).
