Abstract

A quantitative study of the effect of introducing gaps of various widths in a rectangular microstrip patch antenna is presented. Simulations were performed using Keysight Advanced Design System, and the simulations were confirmed by the fabrication and measurement of three antennas. Gaps with widths of λeff/31 and smaller have a negligible effect on the return loss and radiation patterns of the patch antennas that were analyzed.
